New name for troubled school

The Peele Community College secondary school in Long Sutton is planning to start the new school year with a new name.

At a meeting for parents on May 20, the school welcomed anyone with questions about the renaming, with University Academy Long Sutton set as the proposed new title for the school.

In her school blog, headteacher Jane Moody said: “We are aiming to officially convert on July 1, 2019, and the school will close as The Peele Community College on July 19, 2019.

“We will then re-open on September 2 as University Academy Long Sutton.”

The statement continued with details about change in dress for pupils.

“The uniform will stay essentially the same, with a change to the badge on the blazer being the key difference – further details about uniform will be provided in due course.”

The school hit headlines recently following a damning Ofsted inspection that rated the school ‘inadequate’ in six out of six categories.

In March, the school released a statement saying it is “disappointed” by its recent ‘inadequate’ Ofsted rating but is “confident the school can build on its strengths” to move out of that category.

The secondary school was been rated inadequate in overall effectiveness, effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare, outcomes for pupils, and overall effectiveness at previous inspection.

Headteacher Jane Moody said in her response statement: “While we are disappointed by the findings of the inspection, we are confident we have a strong basis on which to improve quickly.”
