Mum takes big step in career change to become nurse

A mum is embarking on a new career as an adult nurse after taking her GCSE England at the Spalding campus of Boston College.

Magnolia Pallister, said she was incredibly happy to have achieved a grade 5 in GCSE English.

“After having a baby and being made redundant from banking, I decided the time was right for a career change,” she said. “My aim is to study at a higher level for a career in adult nursing, which I need a GCSE English qualification to pursue.

“I am so relived and happy to have achieved a grade 5 allowing me to apply for a place at university for next September.

“I studied at the Boston College Spalding Campus where the classes were once a week in the evening – which made it possible for me to fit around my family commitments and childcare.”

A spokesman for the college said: “With unwavering dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence, Boston College’s English and maths learners are celebrating after receiving their well-deserved GCSE results.

“The exceptional pass rate speaks volumes about our learners’ eagerness to learn and their ability to adapt, with Covid-19 impacting the examination process they have experienced in the past.

“These grades have enabled those who hadn’t met their secondary school targets to advance towards their next educational steps or professional endeavours.

“Boston College takes pride in the dedicated adult learners who return to education to
unlock enhanced opportunities for their futures.”

Claire Foster, Boston College’s Principal and CEO said “Our students have done remarkably well, in this, the first year of full, formal examinations after the pandemic.

“We are so excited for those learners who have finally passed their GCSEs today.

“I know how exactly that will feel for them and their families.

“It’s been a tough time for these young people and we will continue to offer all the support we can to make sure that even more learners can achieve retake success in the critical subjects of English and maths.”
