Moulton Harrox’s fine form is halted in Baston thriller

Moulton Harrox’s red-hot form in South Lincs and Border League Division One came to an end at Baston on Saturday.

Having posted 125 batting first at The Shrine, Baston (126-7) got home with three wickets and one ball to spare.

Put into bat after losing the toss, Harrox made a steady start with skipper Martin Chapman (24) and star man Jack Barnett (25) scoring well.

But, when both were dismissed by Adam Hilless (3-40), Harrox never looked like posting a big total.

Rob Sexton (8) and Karl Hibbert (5) came and went cheaply, while Will Shields managed 10 before becoming the first of four victims for John Lamin (4-29).

Joe Broomfield (12) and Clive Bayston (17) ensured Harrox passed 100, but the innings eventually ended with the score on 125 after 41.1 overs.

To their great credit, Moulton made life very difficult for their hosts in reply.

Broomfield (4-34) shone with the ball and dismissed all of the top four to put Mark Richardson (9), James Tickler (22), Liam Davies (15) and Ben Hudson (5) back in the hutch.

But Baston’s batsmen all contributed to keep them on track, with Ant Morris (16) and skipper Hilless (17) making valuable knocks.

Will Naylor (2-19) and Sexton (1-8) did their best with the ball, but Baston edged over the line by the narrowest of margins.

Saturday sees Moulton visit Skegness 2nd (1.30pm).

  • A super century from 17-year-old Ben Troops sentenced Pinchbeck to a heavy defeat against Boston 3rd in SLBL Division Two on Saturday.

Troops scored 101 not out as Boston stormed to 226-6 from their 45 overs at Spalding Grammar School, while skipper Sean Barnett added 38.

It was hard going for the Pinchbeck bowlers, but Andrew Beeston (2-26) fared pretty well.

In reply, Pinchbeck were skittled out for 77 in just 31.1 overs to come up 149 runs short.

Beeston top scored with 18, while Mike Knight (15) and Sam Green (11) both made double figures. Ian Morris (6-25) did most of the damage for Boston.
