Man picked up car after MOT while drunk

A Long Sutton man has been banned from driving after he went for a drink after work before going to collect his car from the MOT test centre.

Louis Preston, 21, of Daniels Gate, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

It was said police were told on October 29 that a car had been seen mounting the kerb and crashing into a hedge.

They went to the home of Preston, the registered owner, at 4pm where he admitted being the driver and having been drinking and he was arrested following a positive breath test.

He gave a reading later of 61 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath, the legal limit being 35 and told police he had been for a drink before collecting his car from the MOT centre.

In mitigation, Phillipa Chatterton said that Preston, who had no previous convictions, had been very honest with the police, immediately admitting to being the driver and having been drinking.

She said he hoped to keep his job but it depended on the length of his driving ban.

He was banned from driving for 17 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course, which will reduce the period of the ban by 17 weeks.

He was also fined £300 and ordered to pay a total of £205 in court costs and charges.
