Man drove at 130mph trying to flee police

A Spalding man drove his Mercedes car at speeds of up to 130mph in an attempt to avoid being stopped by police, a court has heard.

Eimantas Gudziunas, 32, of Double Street, who admitted dangerous driving, was seen by officers in his car at 12.30am on January 26 and they followed it and then used their blue light to get it to stop.

However, the court was told by Marie Stace, prosecuting, that Gudziunas turned left and then immediately right before taking off at speeds up to 100mph, overtaking two vehicles, in one case forcing an oncoming car to take evasive action.

After calling for assistance in the chase, Gudziunas appeared to have a slight loss of control at Sutterton roundabout before joining the A16 back towards Spalding.

Ms Stace said another police car was able to pull in front of the Mercedes and stop, forcing it to stop close to the rear of the police car.

She said Gudziunas then reversed his car into the police car behind, forcing the officers to ‘jump out of the way’, before driving off ‘at speeds up to 130mph’.

She said the car hit a central reservation and went down an embankment and Gudziunas was identified as the driver after being served with a notice to identify who was driving the car at the time.

The magistrates said their powers of punishment were insufficient and Gudziunas was sent for sentence at Lincoln Crown Court on a date to be notified.

He was given an interim driving disqualification.
