LETTERS – Time to put away our rosettes

I am writing this letter after a whirlwind 24 hours which saw me elected as a district councillor for Spalding Wygate.
I am so proud to be elected to serve on South Holland District Council and wanted to thank everyone who put their faith in me. I won’t let you down.
I wanted to pay tribute to Roger Gambba-Jones who has served for the past 23 years and his knowledge and experience will be missed. I hope Roger will pass on some of his years of experience and knowledge on to me and that I can learn the issues that Spalding Wygate wanted help with and I can help resolve some of them.
I also wanted to mention Aidan Forman who ran a very strong campaign in the Wygate ward and I hope that despite a difference in party political views, when possible we can work together to help make our community better.
I spent all day on Thursday running around visiting polling stations and meeting residents who were out to vote. It was such a busy day and hard not to be totally overwhelmed by it all if I am honest.
On Thursday evening I had to put politics and elections to one side as I had committed to take part in the fashion show at Coney’s which was so well attended.
After the fashion show, it was off to the count which was just another incredible experience that is just so hard to describe.
While we lost some very important members of the council, I look forward to getting to work with all of my new colleagues to make sure my ward and Spalding as a town and the whole of South Holland continues to prosper.
Despite national politics being particularly difficult, now is the time to put away our rosettes and focus on pulling together as a community to deliver for those who elected us.
Thank you to everyone who believed in me and who took the time to come out and vote for me, I am grateful and would like to say I hope I can help as many of you as possible and support you in all you are doing.
