LETTER: Sad to see a drop in custom

We were sad to see the article in The Voice (November 19) about the drop in custom at the Sunshine Cafe.

This is a well run, reasonably priced establishment serving good food and the staff are very friendly.

Regarding the councillors’ comments re the signage we would suggest that, if they find it so awful, they come up with a grant of some kind to enable small businesses to have beautiful handpainted signs.

One has only to look at the “Spalding” signs to realise what high standards our councillors have!

Like most residents we feel there are more important things for them to get upset about.

We were interested to read that Mr Aydin has removed “clutter” from the windows – presumably this was at the suggestion/request of the planning committee.

How hypocritical of the committee when virtually all the new shops opening in town have so much “clutter” in the windows it is impossible to see in.

Lastly, Coun Williams stated that “the two previous uses…were far, far superior”. If that were the case surely they would still be there!

Is he so shallow that he thinks the signage makes a difference to the quality of food or could it just be that he’s a snob.

We wish Mr Aydin and his staff a very successful future and will continue to eat at his restaurant whatever the signage.
