LETTER: In a different world to us

I have been following the articles in The Voice regarding the current works being carried out by Network Rail. I have to say that my reaction to Network Rail’s defence is that they must live in a different world to the rest of us.

They say they have spoken to around 400 people in both Spalding and Gosberton. In the Woolram Wygate area alone there must be in excess of 1,000 people, all of whom are likely to be affected.

Then there are the shops, notably the Co-op, who need deliveries, all manner of tradesman servicing the needs of the homes and emergency services.

It may be a surprise to Network Rail but we also have friends and relatives visiting.

Today we had a small meeting and two of our members came from Surfleet and one from Moulton.

All spent in excess of 15 minutes in traffic jams at the lights at the end of Woolram Wygate. The true number of people affected is probably in the 1,000s rather than a few hundred.

Network Rail say also that they have delivered leaflets to local councils.

What good does that do? It is the individual homes that needed to be given information.

As my friend, Ian McCallum, has already informed you, no one living around Woolram Wygate seems to have received any notice.

Ian has also pointed out that the signs by the road are next to useless as they contain more information than can possibly be read whilst driving by.

What papers did they advertise in? I do not buy local papers (I do read The Voice).

As to the cancellation of rail services it seems no one knows much about this. Today one person I spoke to had no idea trains were cancelled.

As they live in Moulton I suppose Network Rail felt they would not be affected.

It seems Network Rail, at best, are naive in their perception of who is affected. Or perhaps they have no regard for the inconvenience to local residents.
