Large developments in South Holland villages recommended for approval

Applications for large housing estates totalling 225 homes in two South Holland villages have been recommended for approval.

Full applications to build 150 homes off High Road in Weston and 75 homes accessed from Sunnydale Crescent in Surfleet are before South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee next week.

Both are on sites where previous planning applications have been granted.

The Persimmon Homes application north west of High Road comes with the outline permission due to lapse this year.

Numerous objections have been received including from the parish council with concerns including a lack of facilities in the village and flooding issues.

Anglian Water though claimed recent flooding events were down to “extreme weather events”, the report recommending approval states while the Section 106 agreement is for 25 per cent affordable housing, £661,928 towards education and £99,000 towards healthcare.

The 75 dwellings Ashwood Homes is looking to build in Surfleet includes a parcel of land where planning permission has been granted for 26 homes.

Among Surfleet Parish Council’s objections are that the site would only have 11 affordable homes, 14 per cent of the 75, despite 19 being proposed when it was a 26 home development.

The report recommending the planning committee grant permission by planning officer Polly Harris-Gorf states that the company had agreed a Section 106 agreement of £197,000 to education and the NHS.

The report states: “It is considered that the scheme of 75 dwellings could be accommodated without materially harming the character/appearance of this part of Surfleet. The number of properties would enable the inclusion of a satisfactory landscaping scheme to integrate the development.”

Both applications will be decided at the meeting of the Planning Committee due to take place at the South Holland Centre in Spalding Market Place on Wednesday July 21.
