Knights’ improved showing in Trophy

A much improved performance for Pinchbeck United saw them push Highgate United all the way on Saturday, but there was to be no repeat of last year’s FA Vase heroics this time around.
After a miserable start to the United Counties League Premier Division North, they were very much the underdogs against the side riding high at the top of the Midlands Central League.
The Knights gave debuts to Oliver Fields who has joined after a spell in America ad Hugo Hunt, previouly of Boston United U19s.
The Knights led thanks to Ben Robson’s perfect first half header after Andre Williams’ ball into the box from the left.
But Highgate came out in the second period and pegged back Pinchbeck early in the second half thanks to a penalty dispatched down the middle.
Pinchbeck responded and had a glorious chance to go-ahead once again but Flynn Slater poked wide when completely unmarked at the back post after a ball from the right by full back Joshua Simpson.
It was Highgate who took the lead though, Ryan Harkin’s poke towards goal taking a deflection off a Pinchbeck defender enough to wrongfoot Lewis Cox in the United goal.
Pinchbeck pushed forward and they were punished late on, a way out of his goal, Cox lost out to Harkin who had a simple finish to make it 3-1 and put Highgate into the next round.
Pinchbeck will be hoping to take the improved performance into the league on Saturday as they on another league leader.
Back in the UCL they host Sherwood Colliery who are yet to lose this season and have only dropped four points from 13 games so far this campaign.
Pinchbeck follow that up on Tuesday night when they go to Boston Town for a Lincolnshire Senior Trophy tie.
