KFC and Taco Bell are given thumbs up

After months of uncertainty the thumbs up has finally been given to plans to build a KFC and Taco Bell in Spalding.

An application to build the restaurants and drive thrus just off the A16 in Spalding were submitted to South Holland District Council planners back in February.

The plans were approved on Tuesday meaning building work can finally get underway.

The application is for a single unit to be shared by the restaurants on the Lincs Gateway Business Park, near to the Applegreen Service Station.

Applicant Erindale Ltd said it hopes to create up to 60 jobs.

There has long been calls for a KFC restaurant in the area with fans of fried chicken having to go as far as Peterborough or Boston for the nearest restaurants.

Taco Bell, which specialises in Mexican themed food, would also be a coup for the town with Nottingham the nearest branch, although the firm has just announced plans to open a branch in Peterborough.

Both restaurants will be open from 10am to 11pm seven days a week.

A spokesman for Ashwood Homes, which owns the Lincs Gateway Business Park, said: “We are delighted to hear of the recent planning approval on Lincs Gateway Business Park.

“The development will create lots of local job opportunities and will help boost the local economy.”

Documents submitted with the application, state: “The proposed development is for the construction of a new KFC and

Taco Bell restaurant and drive thru hot food takeaway with drive thru lane, car parking, landscaping and other associated infrastructure works.

“It will comprise of a single storey building including a 3,032sq ft KFC and 2,060sq ft Taco Bell restaurant/hot food takeaway.

“The application submission demonstrates that there will be economic, social and environmental benefits of the proposed development, whilst also demonstrating that there are no physical or environmental constraints that would prevent development coming forward on the site immediately, including highway impact and flooding.”

There will be 45 car parking spaces, which includes four disabled parking bays and four large order bays.
Three cycle spaces will also be provided.

The Lincs Gateway Business Park was first mooted as a potential site to house KFC back in 2018 while the company was also part of a planning application as part of a service station further up the A16 near Springfields in 2019.
