Last year’s Pride of South Holland Awards.

Keep nominating your Pride stars

This year’s Pride of South Holland Awards has now officially been postponed – but it will be back and the public are urged to keep sending their nominations in.

This year’s celebration of those who make a difference to our community was due to take place at the South Holland Centre on June 28.

Organiser Jan Whitbourn is now working on a new date for the event in the hope it can be run later in the year, after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Jan said: “It is with deep regret that I have to tell you the Pride of South Holland Awards, which would have been on Sunday, June 28 has now been cancelled due to COVID-19.

“Many nominations have come in and lots of wonderful stories which, we, as a community, had no idea what some of you volunteers do for everyone in South Holland.

“It has been a pleasure to read so many exciting stories, please keep them coming.

“The ceremony at the Spalding’s South Holland Centre will be a ticket-only awards event. We are looking at a new date in the future when we are all able to come together again.

“Be assured this event will happen this year and we will be rewarding all those people who have done so much for so many during this time and throughout the year.”

The postponement does allow for more people to be nominated for a Pride of South Holland Award.

There’s a host of categories for you to enter including caring neighbour, service with a smile, young achiever, community sports group and before and after school activities.

Jan continued: “If you know of a group or someone who deserves recognition someone who has gone that extra mile, who we know should be rewarded for their help, support and kindness; please enter them for a Pride of South Holland Award now.

“We, as a community, carry the responsibility of educating the next generation, not only academically as our fantastic schools do this, but education in their social responsibility to the community in which they live, respect for authority and most importantly, team work.

“This is something we are all doing at this crucial time.

“All nominations will be considered by the category sponsors, who will draw up a shortlist of three to go forward to receive an award.

“The date for judging has been extended, let’s pray for peace and hope we are all in a better place and we can go ahead with this event as soon as possible.”
