Jackson: Why I made a quick return to Spalding United from Holbeach United

Defender Adam Jackson has made a swift return to Spalding United to challenge himself further.

The left-back is in the squad for Thursday’s friendly at Yaxley after a change of heart over rejoining Holbeach United this summer.
He’s expected to sign for the Tulips in the next few days.

After winning back-to-back United Counties League Premier Division medals with the Tigers and Tulips, he says he’s returning to The Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field to have a crack at non-league step four.
Jackson told The Voice: “I’ve gone back just to try my hand at higher football, after being in the UCL for seven or eight seasons.
“Myself and Pat (Rayment) agreed terms and that’s all there is to it to be honest.”
He added: “I’ve left the door open with Graham (Drury) if things don’t work out for me higher.”

Manager Rayment is delighted at the deal as he fully admits the Tulips are currently short of players.
He said: “I welcome Adam back with open arms.
“With Gareth Jellyman gone and Julian Kelly suffering with injuries at the moment we’ve been short on numbers, and Jamie Thurlbourne has been playing left-back.
“Adam acquitted himself well with us last season. He was said to be only a benchwarmer when he came to us but he likes to prove people wrong, and he did.
“He was among our most consistent players.”
He added: “I’ve said before that I want players based on the doorstep and Adam fits that mould too.”

Jackson was unavailable for the Tigers’ defeat on penalties to Grantham Town in the Drury Memorial Shield last Saturday.

Spalding United’s proposed friendly at St Neots Town tomorrow (Tuesday) has been postponed until Monday, July 28 (7.45pm).
