Jack lit up so many lives

A 90-year-old who only retired last year and lit up Christmases in Holbeach while raising thousands for charity has died.

Jack Turner has been a barber and then car salesman for decades and in recent years had also been known for his festive displays outside of his Fleet Road home.

He grew up in Long Sutton where he had his first barbers.

He travelled across Lincolnshire cutting hair, including to the American Army base in Scunthorpe, before setting up in Holbeach.

It was there he settled with Joan, his wife of 67 years.

Jack then progressed to selling cars in Holbeach and Whaplode something he continued online until just last year.

Jack’s granddaughter Zoe Harper said: “He had a fantastic life.

“I’ve had quite a few messages from people as he was such a character and was well known for all he did.

“He was still selling cars online up until last year.

“He got such a buzz out of helping customers and they loved him.

“He certainly had the gift of the gab and could sell anything.

“The Christmas lights started because next door had some and it just got bigger and bigger.

“One year he raised over £1,000 for Holbeach Hospital and last year split the proceeds with them and for the residents of Beech Lodge.

“He did that as my daughter Chloe works there and then he spent the last few months of his life there.

“He was like a dad to me really and brought me up.”

The funeral is to be held at Holbeach Cemetery at 1pm on Friday, August 28.
