Holbeach Reserves close in on promotion place

A hat-trick from Dave Wilson moved Holbeach United Reserves to within one point of promotion to the ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division on Saturday.

The striker grabbed all three goals in a 3-0 Division One victory at Kings Cliffe United to make it seven wins on the bounce.

Omar Joof’s on-song side are now just a point behind second-placed Langoft United with one game to play at undefeated champions Thorney on Saturday (2pm).

With Langtoft having finished their season, a draw would see the Tigers promoted by virtue of their superior goal difference.

It won’t be straightforward for Joof’s side though, with Thorney smashing ICA Sports Reserves 18-0 last Saturday.

Elsewhere in Division One, Long Sutton Athletic finished their season with a 6-0 beating at Ketton.

Up in the Premier Division, Moulton Harrox were on fine form to batter high-flying Uppingham Town 5-1 at Broad Lane.

Danny Cairns chipped in with two goals for Harrox, while Joe Townsend, Ian Bradbury and Phil Groves also found the net.

Pinchbeck United picked up another point in their bid for survival as they drew 1-1 at Oakham United in a bad-tempered clash. Edgaras Buzas grabbed Pinchbeck’s goal, but ended the game with nine men after Ricky Dickinson and Ollie Gedney saw red.

Oakham also had Matt Holland dismissed.

Also in the top flight, Crowland Town were handed a 3-1 reverse by second-placed Netherton United at Snowden Field. Nathan Ginty grabbed Crowland’s consolation.

In Division Two, Gedney Hill moved up to ninth with a 4-1 win over Guyhirn thanks to goals from David Ponsford (2), Lee Jackson and Luke Baines.

Pinchbeck United Reserves drew 2-2 at home to Coates Athletic Reserves in the same division. Sam Atkinson and Liam Barnett netted for them.

Meanwhile, Tydd St Mary suffered a 2-1 defeat to Oundle Town Reserves in the League Shield final at the PSL Parkway Club.

Jeremy Barron gave the Saints a half-time lead with a goal on 43 minutes, but Jonny Hipwell and substitute Mthulisi Nkobi hit back to turn the game on its head.
