Long Sutton Bloomers need help to ensure next year’s displays are kept as vibrant as this year’s entry.

Help keep floral display blooming

As towns and villages await the results from this year’s prestigious East Midlands In Bloom competition, one group is pleading for help to keep going.

The regional competition is held each year and many entries come from supporters across the district who work hard to participate.
Results from the regional rounds of the national competition are due to be today (Wednesday).
Long Sutton in Bloom urgently needs help for next year or the entry could be in jeopardy.
Extra support is needed to help with the watering regime during the summer season to keep the blooms looking their best for residents and visitors.
“We have our own van and all the required watering equipment and we can offer a wage for this work,” said a group spokesman.
“The Blooomers are in our 30th year and we have regularly won gold awards in the Britain in Bloom competitions. The Bloomers of Long Sutton have also represented South Holland at a regional level.”

Last year’s In Bloom events, both regional and national, did not take place because of the pandemic.
“We know how much hard work you have put in throughout these challenging times and we know how much joy the campaign brings to people; it has never been more obvious how important community volunteering and a clean and well maintained open space is, which so many people have been taking advantage of in unprecedented numbers,” said Sharon Sutton, chairman of East Midlands in Bloom.
Britain in Bloom is the longest running gardening competition in the UK and is run by the Royal Horticultural Society. There are 16 regional and national competitions.
Judges were out and about across South Holland earlier in the summer and overall winners will take part in the national finals of the event.
