Future of aviary to be debated

A councillor says there needs to be a debate on the future of the nearly 100-year-old aviary in Ayscoughfee Hall’s gardens.

Coun Gary Taylor says a decision needs to be made on the bird house which has been in the Grade II listed setting for 98 years.
The aviary was brought up at a meeting of South Holland District Council by Coun Jane King who told the meeting she’d heard claims that birds had been in a poor condition.
Coun Taylor took her inquiry to be related to an incident reported to Lincolnshire Police on April 1 which a force spokesman said was a “burglary” but that it had “decided not to continue with the investigation.”
Coun Gary Taylor told the meeting: “There is some debate.
“Some people find that not an appropriate location these days to house those birds and some people see it as an attraction.
“Let’s have that debate take place and decide on the future of that particular area.”
Historic England say the aviary was built in 1925 on the site of an old tennis court.
