Fresh spate of thefts from vans hits Spalding

Police are asking Spalding residents to check their CCTV recordings following the latest spate of thefts that resulted in 12 vans burgled overnight across Spalding and Boston.

Lincolnshire Police said a number of vans were broken into overnight from February 28 to March 1.

The areas of Spalding police are interested in are seeing footage from are Commercial Road, Low Road, St Annes Way and Woolram Wygate.

Investigating Officers are asking anyone in the following areas to check any CCTV they may have for a silver or pale blue Audi A3, possibly with five doors.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to trace the driver and occupants of this vehicle seen between midnight and 2am in Boston and 2am and 4am in Spalding, or anywhere inbetween.”

Police said this requests follows several vehicles being broken into and in some cases property stolen. A spokeman said: “The items taken are tools and include a dewalt drill, a planer, power tools etc.

“We are still collecting details of stolen property so cannot be more specific and cannot offer values of property stolen, but we know one victim has lost tools valued over £1,700.”

At least 12 vans were hit, include a Vauxhall Vivaro, Citroen Relay, Peugeot Partner, Peugeot Boxer Mercedes Sprinter and seven Ford Transit vans.”

The police spokeman added: “Please check your CCTV if you live in the roads mentioned between the relevant hours and let us know if you have any images that you think could help with our enquiries.

This latest spate comes less than a month after a nocturnal crime wave that hit South Holland in which at least 20 vans were broken into across the region. In Holbeach, two of the vans were also set on fire in the middle of the night.

One South Holland business lost around £10,000 of equipment when four of its vans were hit.

Inspector Boxall of Spalding Police has urged people witnessing a burglary in progress to contact the police emergency number 999 rather than 101.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the most recent burglaries to contact 101 and quote incident 10 of March 1.
