Next week is half term and if you’re looking for some ideas to keep the kids entertained why not visit Ayscoughfee Museum?

A bird week is being held at the historic Spalding venue from Saturday (May 23) until Friday, May 29.

Throughout the week visitors can admire a unique collection of eggs and stuffed birds and there will also be quizzes and wordsearches for youngsters.

On Saturday and Sunday, youngsters can enjoy a bouncy castle and colouring sessions.

On Monday, Terry the Scarecrow will be making animal balloons and origami and there will be a story time session in the Garden Room at 11.30am followed by bird-themed activities and a teddy bears’ picnic.

On Wednesday there will be a flying display by Fens Falconry from 1pm and visitors can admire a display of static birds and staff will be on hand to give talks.

On the same day, Willow Tree Fen will bring a display of stuffed owls and owl pellets for children to dissect. Youngsters can also learn about the owl’s food chain.

On Thursday a drop-in arts and crafts workshop takes place between 11am and 3pm. There will also be a special treat for visitors between 1pm and 2pm with the chance to hold some baby owls from the Baytree Owl Centre.

The week rounds off with a special production from the Flying the Nest Theatre company on the South Lawn at 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Filled with a fantastic mix of music, puppetry, facts and fun, this humorous show brings to life native bird characters in a new and engaging way.
