Dunn: Pinchbeck United preparing for UCL football at the Sir Halley next season

Pinchbeck United expect to be playing step six football at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field next season.

That’s the verdict of player/boss Ian Dunn, who says all of the paperwork is in place for Pinchbeck to be promoted from ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division for the first time in their history.

Dunn says the Knights have a one-year agreement to join long-term tenants Spalding United at the South Holland District Council owned Sir Halley – and the switch from Knight Street has been approved by all of the relevant authorities.

The player/boss, who expects his side to be placed in ChromaSport UCL Division One alongside the likes of Blackstones and Bourne Town, says Pinchbeck don’t want their expected move to the Sir Halley to annoy Spalding – insisting they want to work with the Tulips to ensure both clubs are happy.

“As far as we’re concerned, we’re planning for step six,” enthused Dunn. “We have an agreement to play at the Sir Halley as tenants.

“Obviously we spent a lot of time and money looking into developing Knight Street, but that has so far failed to materialise.

“Ever since I returned to the club, we’ve built towards being promoted. Playing at the SIr Halley allows us to do that – we’re just waiting on official confirmation now.

“As long-term tenants, we don’t want to be a problem for Spalding. To be honest, we want to work with them to make sure things work out.”

Dunn also intimated that he would have walked away from Pinchbeck had they not secured promotion, with the ex-Boston Town boss ready to have another crack at managing in the UCL.

“Personally, this was always going to be my last season managing in the PDFL,” he added. “No disrespect intended, I just feel ready to test myself in the UCL again.

“The players also deserve the chance to test themselves at a higher level. We’ve progressed as a club over the past three years and it took a record points tally to deny us the title this year.

“But we always had a goal of being promoted, so finishing above Netherton was the goal from Christmas onwards.

“We won a trophy and finished second behind a Peterborough Sports Reserves side that used first team players – which they had every right to – to get over the line and be champions with a record points tally.

“We can be very proud of our season.”
