Dunn feels rivals don’t know how to beat Pinchbeck United ahead of ‘exciting’ Irchester test

Ian Dunn is expecting an exciting game on Saturday as he takes ChromaSport UCL Division One champions-elect Pinchbeck United to Irchester United (3pm).

The Knights, who are 14 points clear at the top, need a maximum of 11 points to be sure of their maiden UCL title.

Player/boss Dunn is relaxed ahead of the clash, admitting that Pinchbeck’s divisional rivals haven’t found a way to beat his side.

But he isn’t expecting an easy ride against an Irchester outfit that have won nine of their 14 games at home this season.

“They’ve obviously been very good at home,” said Dunn. “We’ve seen them a few times and they are capable of good things.

“When they last played us, they changed their style a little bit. We won 3-1 that day, but I know they are capable.

“I think it’ll be interesting to see how they set up against us. Will they sit back and invite us on to them? Or will they have a go?

“It’s no real bother to us, we’ve become very adept at judging the situation and playing accordingly.

“Allan Ross (assistant boss) has said it before, but it feels like the teams in this league don’t know how to beat us.

“It’s like nobody has found a way of playing against us, especially when we’re at our best.

“I’m expecting a good game. Their manager is a nice guy and knows his stuff. I imagine they’ll have a go.”

Dunn did admit that he was disappointed to see last Saturday’s home game against Oakham United rained off (see page 36).

The striker was hoping his side would get another three points in the bag, as they bid to clinch the title at the earliest opportunity.

“It was a shame,” added Dunn. “You’d expect that we’d have beaten Oakham.

“We’re still on course to be able to win it at Lutterworth Town on March 31, though.

“That’s the objective and we’re really just checking the games off now.”

Pinchbeck are expected to be without the versatile Chris Shipley for the trip to Alfred Street, but Luke Gardner should be fit to feature.

The Knights are 20 games unbeaten ahead of the trip to 11th-placed Irchester, who have won three of their last four games – scoring 19 goals in the process.
