Drunk man assaulted emergency worker

An ugly drunken episode at night has cost a Spalding resident £951.

Police were called to a report of a man with a cut to his head in the town’s Matmore Gate.

Boston Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday that a witness saw drunken Vilmatas Baltraitis fall and hit his head.

He then got up and had an argument with another man before being pushed over.

“The officer starts to apply first aid,” said prosecutor Marie Stace. “(Baltraitis) nearly falls backwards several times so people had to hold on to him.

“He then wants to stand up and starts to shout abusive language in Russian and English.”

Baltraitis (57) was then arrested for being drunk and disorderly and following further treatment by ambulance staff, he became abusive again.

“He then turns his head and spits at the officer, which hits his vest,” added Miss Stace.

The defendant, of Pinchbeck Road, admitted assaulting an emergency worker and being drunk and disorderly in public on October 28 last year.

Solicitor Helen Coney said in mitigation that he had entered guilty pleas despite having a “lack of memory of the events”.

“He has tried, since the offences, to cut down on drinking,” she added.

Baltraitis was fined £583 and ordered to pay £50 compensation to Steven Harrington, £85 costs and £233 victim surcharge.
