Driver more than double the limit after car crash

A Spalding man who was driving a friend home after a drink, crashed his car while more than twice over the legal alcohol limit.

Edvardas Adomenas, (32), of Gamlyn Close, who admitted the offence, was said to have been the driver of a VW Passat when he was involved in a single vehicle collision on Nene Terrace Road at Crowland on May 6.

Prosecuting at Boston Magistrates’ Court, Marie Stace said Adomenas was arrested after a positive breath test, with a later reading of 83 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath, the legal limit being 35.

Mitigating, Rebecca Freitas said it was Adomenas’ first offence and he was ‘extremely embarrassed’ and had now sold his car as he knew he would be losing his licence.

He was banned from driving for 20 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course, which will reduce the period of the ban by 20 weeks.

He was also fined £350 and ordered to pay a total of £120 in court costs and charges.
