Boston Magistrates Court as seen on Google Streetview

Disqualified driver fled police after being caught behind the wheel with cocaine.

A man caught driving while disqualified just four days before the end of his ban has been banned again.

Daniel Horgan, 38, of Station Road, Gedney Hill, who has 51 previous convictions, many of them for driving while disqualified and without insurance, had admitted failing to stop for the police, driving while disqualified and possession of crack cocaine when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court in June and the case had been adjourned for sentence.

It was said that he was seen driving a Ford Focus at 3.50pm on June 4 in Alexandra Road, Spalding and
although he stopped for the police, he took off at speed when the officer got out of his car to speak to him.

The police pursued him as he drove away until he abandoned it and ran off, but was caught and arrested
after a short chase.

The magistrates heard that he admitted possession of crack cocaine as he was being searched and he also admitted to being disqualified from driving.

The court heard he had 25 previous convictions for 51 offences.

Mitigating, Beris Brickles said Horgan said the vehicle had not belonged to him but to a friend and he had asked Horgan to drive his son into town.

He had not been driving erratically but the police checked and realised the driver was not the registered owner and that was why they had stopped him.

He said that although he did run away, he soon stopped as he realised the game was up and pointed out that he had been offence free for almost four years and there was a ‘good chance’ of him being rehabilitated.

The court was told Horgan had said he had ‘panicked’ when he drove away as he had drugs on him.

The magistrates imposed a six month drug rehabilitation order and ordered him to undergo 10 rehabilitation days.

He was also banned from driving for another year and ordered to pay a total of £180 in court costs and charges.
