Crowland panto will be tribute to late town dentist John Hartley

Here’s a roll call of almost everybody involved in Crowland Amateur Dramatic Society’s forthcoming panto Jack and the Beanstalk.

And as a tribute to society founder member and town dentist John Hartley, who died in November 2015, the show will use the script which he wrote 39 years ago.

Producer John Munton – another founder member and now chairman of the society – said: “This panto is very special to our hearts.
“John wrote this version to raise money for Crowland Lake Society and he went on to invite members of the town to play parts in his show.

“From this panto CADS was formed and is still here today with three original members still involved.

“So it was decided that as our mark of respect to John, CADS would perform Jack and the Beanstalk using his original script. It’s our way and Crowland’s way to say ‘thank you for everything you did for our town’.”

The chorus consists of 40 local children and a full compliment of principals, led by Tim Williams, who is playing Dame Doolally, the character that John Hartley played.

Jayne Munton, who was principal girl Jill in the original cast, is playing Fairy Silverkrin this time.

The show is at South View Community Primary School in Postland Road on Friday, February 10, and Saturday, February 11,  with matinee and evening performances.

CADS acknowledges the “kind and full co-operation” of South View headteacher Jo Tomlins in allowing and encouraging its productions to be staged at the school.
Tickets are on sale at Bridge Hardware in East Street, Crowland (01733 210259).
