Crafty way to get out and about

Anyone can help brighten Holbeach High Street and decorate a float at the Spalding Flower Parade, thanks to a new craft session.

Boxes of Hope are putting on the weekly craft sessions open to all to join in from 10am to 5pm every Thursday at its High Street hub in the town.
Anyone is being asked to pop in and get involved with two projects in particular.
Firstly there’s the bid to decorate the front window of the hub, the former Lloyd’s bank office.
Boxes of Hope also have a float in the flower parade that needs decorating with the theme of Harry Potter.
Jules Hopwood has been helping out at Boxes of Hope and was asked by the charity’s director Mandy Baxter to put the open sessions on for all.
“Anyone is welcome to come down and learn new skills, or if they have a skill they want to pass on to others,” said Jules. “For the window display we’re looking to do a giant quilt that anyone is able to join in with and help create.
“We’ve been creating crocheted butterflies to put on the quilt.
“With the Harry Potter float we’ve been doing flowers, insects, rats; people can come here and be creative with it.”
Jules herself previously taught people with learning difficulties and is a sign language teacher.
She hopes more people will pop in.
“It’s an open workshop so anyone can pop in any time, even if it’s just five minutes for a cup of tea.
“Citizen’s Advice are here too as our staff from Barclays bank on every other Thursday to provide banking advice.”
One of those in attendance was Chris Atkinson.
“It’s nice to come here and talk to people,” she said. “You don’t realise how closed off you can be when you become a widow.
“It’s hard making that first step and getting out to a group like this but I’m so glad I did it.”
