Charity’s new hub for Holbeach

A local charity is set to open its new hub in Holbeach.

Tonic Health has been providing much needed services for a number of years through its Spalding and Long Sutton bases and Tonic 44 cafe in Surfleet.

This week it’s set to open its latest centre in Boston Road South.

It will host extensions of many of the groups it runs and is looking to meet the health needs of the community.

Michael Morris set up Tonic Health in 2011.

“The Holbeach Hub is an exciting opportunity,” he said.

“It’s in a good location and it will save travel for the people who currently have to come to Spalding for the groups we put on.

“It’s providing new opportunities for the community in the town.”

It’s hoped the Holbeach Hub will have its official opening on Saturday, June 18.

“The aim is to have an all-age community centre for the local people, together with strong youth focused activities and events program,” he continued.

‘We are both pleased and excited to be announcing the opening of the new Holbeach Hub and are looking forward to connecting with both the local community and businesses.

“We aim to improve both the physical and mental health and wellbeing of South Lincolnshire’s Communities through bringing people together, collaborative work and partnerships in shared spaces.”

As part of National Volunteer Week, Michael personally thanked all 18 volunteers and 14 staff that serve Tonic Health.

He did a video montage featuring their work and handed out certificates.

“They’re invaluable as without them we wouldn’t be able to do half the things we do,” he said. “The amazing thing is that quite a few volunteers initially came to Tonic Health by being part of the groups and quite a lot of the volunteers have gone on to become staff.

“What they do is phenomenal.”

One of the new groups set to launch in Holbeach is a new focus group for people with dementia and their carers.

They’ve proved hugely popular elsewhere in South Holland and now Tonic Health is launching one out of the Holbeach Hub.

Jean Gifford, who will oversee it, said: “This is a daycare group for people with early stage dementia designed to offer socialisation with various activities and entertainment throughout the day while the carer has a much needed break.”

Tonic Health is also set to run its first ever golf day at Spalding Golf Club.

It’ll take place on Tuesday, June 28 with a main team competition alongside individual.

It’s teams of four but individual golfers can be allocated to teams while those without a handicap are also welcome to enter.

The cost is £25 for Spalding members and £45 for non-members.

Entry forms can be obtained from events@tonic-health.co.uk or Neil Wilkinson on ngwilko@btinternet.com or 07906 899502.
