Celebrating the Fens

On Sunday (June 19) the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society Museum in Broad Street, Spalding will be open to visitors from 11am to 4pm for the Celebrating Fens event and will be the last opportunity to view the Portrait Promenade Exhibition.

This special exhibition is the result of collaboration between Transported Arts, photographer Steven Hatton and the Society.

The exhibition showcases people and costumes from historic glass plate images with photographs of today’s shoppers and traders, together with current town centre buildings, the map of Spalding produced for the Society by engineer, John Grundy, in 1731, and early 19th century etchings and paintings by Hilkiah Burgess.

As well as the opportunity to enjoy the fascinating collection, the museum will also be showing a film which has been produced from its collection of historic glass plate images of wildfowling on Cowbit Marsh along with a display of items relevant to Cowbit Wash.

All are welcome and entry is free.
