Care home now rated as ‘good’

A South Holland care home has been awarded a ‘good’ status following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission – and is no longer in special measures.

Field House in Fleet Hargate, had been rated as ‘requires improvement’ earlier this year and there had been ‘continuous breaches of regulations.’
It had been in special measures since August 2022 and the CQC undertook a focused, unannounced inspection.
“This report only covers our findings in relation to the key questions of Safe, Effective and Well-Led which contain those requirements.
“For those key questions not inspected, we used the ratings awarded at the last inspection to calculate the overall rating,” the report says.
The overall rating for the service has changed to ‘good’ as a result.
“Since the last inspection the provider had continued to make environmental improvements. Redecoration of people’s rooms was on-going as was the replacement of floor coverings where required,” the report says.
“Environmental risks, such as the use of stairs, had been assessed and actions taken to mitigate the risk,” it added.
Field House is a care home without nursing care and provides personal care for up to 28 people.
“At our last inspection, the provider had failed to have systems in place to assess, monitor and mitigate risks related to people’s care and support needs and infection control,” the report said.
“Systems and process are now in place and people told us they felt safe living at Field House,” the report said.
Staff had received training about keeping people safe and demonstrated their understanding of how to raise concerns for people’s safety.
“People were supported to maintain a balanced diet. Staff were aware of any dietary supplements or individual requirements people had,” the report said.
Field House is operated by Farrington Care Homes which runs premises nationwide.
“Improvements had been made to governance systems and action had been taken to address any shortfalls identified in audits. The provider continued to work through a programme of improvements,” the report says.
“Since the last inspection, the provider had made improvements to the ways in which staff were deployed. Senior care staff trained in medicine management were now deployed on all night shifts.”
