Broomfield blasts a sensational Sunday century for Moulton Harrox

An incredible 134 from Joe Broomfield steered Moulton Harrox to a 77-run triumph over Hampton 2nd in Rutland League Division Six on Sunday.

With skipper Alex Sowerby winning the toss and opting to bat, Harrox raced to an impressive 285-4 from their 45 overs.

The majority of the runs came from centurion Broomfield and opener Lance Bettinson (71). Broomfield helped himself to 16 fours and four sixes in his innings, while Bettinson found the rope seven times and plundered two maximums. Will Shields also chipped in with 22 as Harrox set an imposing total.

Renuka Gunasekara (50) and Prabhu Ramasamy (49no) scored well in Hampton’s reply, but they were bowled out for 208 in 40 overs.

Chief destroyers for Harrox were Ben Shields (3-58), Joe Griffith (3-28) and Broomfield (2-16).

  • Elsewhere in Rutland League Division Six, Long Sutton 2nd were handed a 55-run reverse by hosts Orton Park 2nd.

An unbeaten 134 from opener Mark Durham – which included 19 fours and four sixes – steered the home side to 234-9 from 45 overs after Sutton inserted them into bat.

Four wickets from C John (4-54) and three from Tommy Sayer (3-52) just about kept Sutton in with a shout ahead of the run chase.

However, the visitors struggled to keep up with the required run rate and eventually closed on 179-6 from their allotted overs.

Phil Coote (62) and Jeremy Barron (35no) batted well, but Sutton ended up well shy of their target.

  • Up in Division Three, Long Sutton 1st cruised to an 85-run win over Wisbech Town 2nd. Half-centuries from Chris Booth (70) and Dan Oldfield (51) guided visitors Sutton to 203 all out from their 45 overs.

Shane Sleath (51) looked like firing Wisbech to glory in reply, but once he went caught and bowled by Barry Stanway (1-21), the hosts collapsed to 118 all out.

Spinner Jake Burton (4-11) did the majority of the damage.
