Booking system at tips to end on September 1

The system of having to book a slot at Lincolnshire County Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres, including at the West Marsh Road site in Spalding, is to end on September 1.

The permit scheme for vans and larger trailers will remain a council spokesman said.

The measures were brought in following the sites reopening after the first COVID-19 lockdown.

It’s proved controversial while some have claimed its led to a rise in fly-tipping, something the county council has previously said there’s little evidence for.

Coun Daniel McNally, executive member for waste and recycling at Lincolnshire County Council, explains: “In the elections we promised we’d make the HWRC’s easier to access, so we’ve been working hard with our contractors to remove the booking system. I’m pleased to say that from 1 September, residents will no longer need to book a slot to access the sites in the county.

“This will undoubtedly make it more convenient to dispose of recycling, garden waste and general waste.

“Permits will still be required for vans and larger trailers.”
