Billiards round-up: Holbeach A seal Spalding and District League title in fine style

Long-term leaders Holbeach A wrapped up the Spalding and District Billiards League title in typical fashion on Monday night – with a maximum victory.

They crushed Gosberton B 7-0 (600-399) with James Glover (R90), Colin Dodd (R30) and Ben Harding (R40) all enjoying frame victories, taking their tally to 108 points in the process.

Dodd and Glover also chipped in with breaks of 24 and 20 respectively, making it a great night for the new champions.

Crowland B also clinched second place with a whitewash 7-0 scoreline as they put club mates Crowland A to the sword.

The league’s top player Rob Childs (O260) shone in that clash, racking up typical breaks of 83 and 71 before rounding his win off with an unfinished 35.

Paul Holland (R60) and Allan Sharman (R60) were the other frame winners.

There was another 7-0 scoreline elsewhere in the league as Donington made light work of Long Sutton.

Nigel Brasier (R90), Ben Wrigglesworth (R40) and Jim Thompson (R40) grabbed the wins in that one, despite Mick Cooper (O190) pocketing two 33 breaks.

Meanwhile, Mick Johnson (O170) made breaks of 76 (unfinished), 59 and 57 for Consti B – but saw his side beaten 5-2 at Pyramid A.

John Clapton (R90) and, crucially, John Twell (R60) sealed the win for the Bourne side.

Also victorious were Consti A, who beat Pyramid B 5-2, while Holbeach A beat hosts Gosberton A by the same scoreline. A 30 break from Holbeach’s Tony Blanchard (R50) was the best score in either fixtures.
