Belligerent batting fires Town teens to Sutton success

An awesome batting display helped Spalding Town under-15s defeat rivals Long Sutton under-15s by 102 runs on Friday night.

Openers Jordy Butcher (32 retired) and Pat Harrington (32 retired) began belligerently, reaching the boundary regularly.

They were followed by Town skipper Josh Lawrence (30 retired) and his cousin Harry DeCamps (30 retired) as Spalding produced a feast of aggressive batting.

Not done there, Ed Lanning (25 not out) and Jon Manton (31 retired) made hay in the last five overs as Town reached a daunting 197-1 at the close.

For Sutton, opener Raj Sangha (32 retired) replied in kind with a spirited knock.

He was well supported by James Coote (26), but when the pair departed Sutton started to stutter.

Manton (2-10), DeCamps (2-4) and Henry Wardman (2-3) all made double strikes to leave the visitors stranded on 95-6 at the end of their innings.

  • Town’s under-15s were narrowly edged out by hosts Peterborough under-15s in a very tight tussle.

Spinner Sreehari Subramonian (4-12) starred with the ball as Spalding could only post a below par 114-8, despite another incredible knock from Harrington (33 retired).

That man Harrington (2-17) then made a double strike with the ball as Town set about defending their tally, but Peterborough won by 5 wickets with just one ball left.
