Maiden Barraclough strike earns ten-man Spalding United a battling win at Rugby

Ten-man Spalding United produced an impressive comeback to win 2-1 at lowly Rugby Town on Saturday and keep their title hopes alive.

After a goalless first half, the Tulips were reduced to ten men when Neal Spafford appeared to hit out at David Kolodynski early in the second period.

It didn’t take long for hosts Rugby to cash in on their numerical advantage, with Kolodynski putting them 1-0 to the good.

However, Dave Frecklington’s side are made of stern stuff these days and soon levelled when Brad Wells nodded home Lee Beeson’s corner.

Not done there, Brad Barraclough headed home his first competitive goal for the club to give Spalding all three points against the odds.

The win keeps the Tulips six points behind leaders Shaw Lane AFC, who grabbed a late goal to beat Stocksbridge 1-0.

Meanwhile, Holbeach United’s ChromaSport UCL Premier Division trip to high-flying Eynesbury Rovers was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox re-took second place in the Premier Division with a 4-1 home success over Wisbech Town Reserves.

Pinchbeck United progressed to the last four of the President Premier Shield with a 2-1 triumph over ICA Sports at Knight Street. Having trailed 1-0 at the break, Ollie Maltby and Brad Murrell netted to send The Knights through.
