Act II choir to bring Good Vibrations

Do You Wanna Dance? Everybody’s surfing down to Broad Street Methodist Church next week as Act II’s choir sings the hits of one of the world’s most iconic and influential bands.

There will be plenty of Fun, Fun, Fun in their show Surfin’ and Singin’: The Music of The Beach Boys which will take place at Broad Street Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 24.

The young choir ranges from seven years old to nearly 18 and will be singing a host of songs written by the Californian band led by Brian Wilson and renowned for their stunning melodies.

Act II’s Karl Gernett said: “The choir continued to meet and sing during the lockdowns on Zoom but harmonies don’t really work doing it like that.

“Now we’re all meeting again and able to be in the same room we felt it would be something to work on.

“It’s certainly a challenge, the Beach Boys harmonies are not that easy, but the choir have really taken to it.

“One of the best parts of my job is introducing people to new things and I don’t think any of them had heard of The Beach Boys before having not listened to much in the way of 1960s music.

“It’s been wonderful seeing them take these songs on and really enjoy it and I’m looking forward to seeing it live.”

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on the door or by emailing info@act2online.co.uk

It follows on from Act II’s Pint Sized Players putting on The Hunchback of Notre Dame at Spalding’s St Nicolas Church and Crowland Abbey last week.

“They’re big spaces to play, but everyone did really well,” said Karl. “A huge thank you goes to both churches for letting us run riot in those fantastic ancient buildings.

“It was actually the Pint Sized Players’ first production since 2019.

“They were supposed to do it in March 2020, but obviously haven’t been able to, so it was nice to actually get it done.”

Act II is already planning for a bumper 2022 and there’s one more event to come this year.

The annual satirical Revue will be returning from December 15 to 18 at a venue yet to be finalised.

“We’re just starting to write it,” Karl said.
