A fantastic new outdoor area with all-weather sports pitch and auditorium is in the pipeline at Spalding Primary School.

The project could cost up to £25,000 and the school’s Parent Teacher Association is fundraising hard – with a big emphasis on this year’s annual fair on Saturday, June 28.

Proposals and quotes are still being gathered, but the hope is for more than one pitch which will cater for football, basketball and netball. A stage/performance area with auditorium-style seating which is cut into an embankment on both sides is in the plans too.

PTA chairman Darren Ward said: “The big project is this all-weather sports pitch with an outdoor classroom which doubles as an auditorium.
“As a charity, part of our remit is to reach out and link with the local community.
“This project has the potential to do that but is not the prime reason for it.
“It would be a wonderful facility for our school.”

With the project in mind, the PTA is hoping to attract huge numbers of people to the Woolram Wygate school’s summer fair and has worked hard to provide a packed afternoon of entertainment and fun.
Last year’s inaugural event raised several thousands of pounds but next week’s fair, supported by Butters Group, promises to be bigger and better.

Top attractions include an inter-school football tournament, swing boats, dance groups, singers, birds of prey, two bouncy castles, a fire engine and police car.
There will be a host of stalls and stocks with wet sponges plus a gunging for the person who receives the most votes. Teachers beware!
A balloon sculpturist will be at work and Subway will be dishing out cookies and vouchers.

The Food Court will have a barbecue with Grasmere Farm products and an ice cream stall and beer tent.
Now the 14-strong PTA is just hoping for dry weather to complement its efforts.
Mr Ward said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thanks all of my team who have selflessly committed thousands of hours to put this together.”

The fair, which is free entry, takes place between noon and 4pm.
