Young guns fire as depleted Holbeach earn decent draw

Depleted Holbeach United earned an impressive draw with high-flying Thurnby in their penultimate home UCL Premier Division game of the season on Wednesday night.

With striker Andrew Tidswell forced to play as an emergency goalkeeper, it looked like being a long night for the Tigers when Pearson Mwanyongo (12) fired the visitors ahead.

However, teenage talent Jordan Keeble (43) levelled on the stroke of half time, before fellow young gun Corey Newman put Holbeach ahead with his first goal for the club on 50 minutes.

Mwanyongo hit back to level five minutes later, but Holbeach held on for a draw – with Tidswell forced to make a couple of smart late saves.

The draw keeps Darren Jarvis’ side on target for a fourth place finish ahead of a trip to basement boys Long Buckby on Saturday (3pm).
