Wardrobe inspiration for ‘on trend’ autumn

As the summer sunshine fades it’s time to turn your thoughts to what’s hot in the fashion stakes this autumn.

Here are a few of our favourites:
70s and 80s – 70s inspired fashion is still hot for autumn, but is joined by a flashback to the 80s. Think power shoulders, colour block knits and rainbow colour combos which defined the decade of Dynasty, Bananarama and Wham.
Knitwear – Lovely thick knits are everywhere at the moment – perfect for snuggling up in as the weather takes a turn for the chilly.
Hair – Forget the big, bouncy, blow-dried, X Factor judge look and go for a more flat and messy look – that could mean a few more minutes tucked up in bed in the morning!
Collars – Collars in interesting fabrics are big news and can be worn layered over pinafores or thin-knit jumpers.
Coat – Think big, brown and military and you won’t go far wrong this autumn/winter.
Polo necks – Still going strong in the fashion stakes. Go bright red for a big autumn look.
Footwear – Loafers are everywhere on the High Street this season, so treat your feet. Fashion says this is the season of the over-the-knee or mid-calf boot but, in real life, something a bit easier to wear and more flattering is bound to take precedence, so maybe the best bet is the Chelsea boot, which will protect you from puddles while offering a pared-down counterpoint to other sartorial experiments.
Other fashion must haves to look for this autumn are sheer black tights, brooches and bucket bags.
