Walk for girl (6) with brain tumour

A 75-year-old former driving tutor is to walk 32 miles for a six-year-old with a brain tumour.

Noel Bratt is walking from his Long Sutton home to Ely with daughter Keily Cleary to raise money for Edie Jackson.

Noel and his wife Janet are longtime friends of Edie’s family having grown up alongside his grandparents in Essex.

And after hearing about the aggressive tumour Edie has and the family’s fundraising effort for private treatment, Noel and Keily are set to take on the walk on September 26.

Noel said: “She is a beautiful, smiley, happy-go-lucky little girl who loves performing and playing football.

“She is a gentle soul and is much loved by all of her family.

“I am a parent and a grandparent I cannot begin to imagine what pain these families are going through.

“The diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) Edie has is inoperable and the treatment here I believe only consists of Radiation that has not moved on since the 1960s.

“Chemotherapy is available but the problem I see is how they deliver it to the desired point in the brain stem without causing more symptoms

“I must admit I had never heard of DIPG so that would be one of my priorities to get more awareness out there and that might make the the government put some real money to this terrible disease.”
