Tyler bags awards double at Pinchbeck United’s end of season bash

Pinchbeck United player/boss Ian Dunn has heaped praise on three of his players after the club’s end of season get together on Sunday.

It was a memorable season for the Knights, which saw them promoted to the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division as Division One champions – in what was their first-ever season at the level.

Versatile left-sider Tyler Wright picked up both the players’ player of the year and supporters’ player of the season gongs, while experienced defender Jack Smith walked away with the manager’s player of the season prize.

The first annual Dave ‘Smudger’ Smith Clubman Award, a prize created in the memory of winger Josh Smith’s late father, also went to defender Ash Murrell.

Dunn said: “It was great to see Tyler win two awards. At the start of the season, I wasn’t sure if he’d see the season out with us.

“We always knew what he was capable of, though. He wanted to play in midfield but, from September, he started to make the left wing back role his own.

“He’s been absolutely top drawer and has become one of the first names on the team-sheet each week.

“He has really improved – and I can see him getting even better next season.

“As for Jack, he’d be the first to tell you that he’s not the most talented player in the squad.

“But he’s been our most consistent performer by an absolute mile.

“I think he was our third top appearance maker and he made more appearances for us last season than he’s managed over other seasons in his career.

“He always delivers and puts his body on the line for the cause. His experience has also been invaluable.

“The Dave ‘Smudger’ Smith Clubman Award was something that we wanted to do. Josh has been great for us since signing and often travels from Peterborough by himself.

“He never moans when he’s left out and is a great asset to the squad. We wanted to honour his dad in some way and felt like Ash was the best winner for a prize like this.

“He played much of the season on one leg, but never complained and just got on with it.

“He needs an operation at some point, but we knew that we could always rely on him.”
