Two strikers added to Knights’ options

It’s been an excellent Christmas for Pinchbeck United who are third in the Future Lions United Counties League Premier Division after picking up seven points from a possible nine.

A 4-1 win at Sleaford Town on Saturday was backed up by a 0-0 draw with previously third placed Holbeach United and a 4-1 win at Deeping Rangers.

Manager Ian Dunn said: “I think I said being unbeaten with a win would be good from three not easy fixtures, so to get the results we did was excellent.

“It was a really good win at Deeping, the draw against Holbeach was a fair result and I felt we were good again and fully deserved the three points.

“So that’s seven points in nine and we’ve also brought in two new strikers who both bagged at the weekend. I don’t think I can ask for more than that.”

Those two strikers are Jack Smith, who recently fell out of favour at Holbeach, and 19-year-old Harry Limb.

The latter is on work experience from King’s Lynn having joined from Premier League side Burnley where he earned a move to after initially excelling at Wisbech.

“Defensively we seem to have addressed some of the issues since we moved to a back three, but we needed more striking threat, particularly someone to hold the ball up,” Dunn explained.

“Ryan Oliver was unavailable over Christmas anyway, isn’t quite fit and hasn’t hit the ground running.

We needed someone dynamic and Josh fits that bill.

“He ticks all the boxes. He’s strong, powerful, holds the ball up well but he’s mobile as well and gives us something more than we have.

“King’s Lynn asked if we were interested in Harry and we took them up.

“He’s had injuries and their two strikers are doing very well and scoring goals and he wanted to play football.

“You saw with his goal on Saturday what he’s about.

“He picked up the ball and left the defender with his pace before firing into the bottom corner.”

After two excellent away performances, the Knights will be after another one this weekend as they head to Rothwell Corinthians.

Rothwell beat Pinchbeck 3-0 at home in the FA Cup earlier this season, but have struggled in the league and are third from bottom.

“They beat us in the FA Cup earlier in the season but our squad has evolved hugely since then,” said Dunn. “On paper we should get three points but they have picked up some good results recently and are moving up from the end of the table.

“They’re finding their feet so it will be a tough game and we will have to continue playing to the level we have been.”
