Tulips B storm into Spalding and District Snooker League Division One title picture

Tulips B announced themselves as a real force in the Spalding and District Snooker League Division One title race after a whitewash win last week.

They eased past Gosberton B 6-0 to climb up to second place in the top tier – just four points behind long-term leaders Donington C with a game in hand.

A 27 clearance from Darren Woodberry (O42) and a 21 break from Mark Woodberry (O49) helped them on their way, with Joe Garland (scr) also notching a solid 20 break.

Leaders Donington C were on winning form, but their 4-2 triumph over Services E means they are within reach of in-form Tulips B.

Another side gunning for the title are Holbeach A, who picked up a 5-1 success over Whittlesey A.

Jem Merrison (O35) sank a 28 break for them on their own baize as they moved to within seven points of the summit.

Services A lost ground, however, as they were beaten in two games in three days. A 47 break and 22 clearance from Mark Gray (O105) inspired Bourne SC A to a 4-2 success over the Spalding side in their first clash. Oliver Player (O28) also made a 32 break for the Bourne side.

Donington A then handed Services A a 4-2 home reverse despite a 22 break from Paul Quincey (O7).

Elsewhere in the top tier, Consti F enjoyed a fine 5-1 victory at Boundary A and Tulips A beat high-flying Pyramid B 5-1.

In Division Two, leaders Long Sutton A defeated Crowland C 4-2 to stay six points clear at the summit.

Hot on their heels are club rivals Long Sutton B, who defeated Boundary C by the same score – and do have a game in hand.

Black-ball wins from Wayne Howard (O21) and Dave Godfrey (O35) in the final two frames got the job done for the high-fliers.

Third-placed Holbeach C went one better than the top two and picked up a 5-1 triumph over Gosberton D.

A 36 break and 22 clearance from Mark Gregory (O14) were the highlights for the title chasers.

They are now ahead of Services F, who slip to fourth after suffering a 5-1 defeat at Pyramid D. James Sharpe (O49) sank a 21 break for the Bourne side.

Meanwhile, Neil Harvey (O14) made a 32 break to inspire Holbeach B to a 4-2 triumph at Gosberton A.

Alan Jackson (O7) also impressed with a 25 clearance as Pyramid C picked up a 4-2 success at Consti H.

Down in Division Three, Crowland A moved six points clear at the top of the table following a 4-2 success at Consti A.

Paul Coor (scr) clinched that one with victory in the penultimate frame.

Third-placed Services B missed the chance to climb up to second after going down 5-1 at Pyramid E, while Gosberton C in fourth took the chance to close the gap on them.

They picked up a 4-2 win at Consti D to close to within two points of second place.

Paul Craft (R21) clinched the lion’s share of the spoils for them with glory in the fourth frame.

Consti C are four points further back – with a game in hand – following a 4-2 victory at Services D.
