Tuesday football: Sheffield FC smash five past Spalding United, Pinchbeck pegged back at Irchester

Spalding United were humbled 5-1 at Sheffield FC on Tuesday night, while Pinchbeck United drew 1-1 at Irchester United.

Waide Fairhurst fired the hosts ahead from the penalty spot on 18 minutes as the Tulips made a sloppy start to the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South showdown.

It was 2-0 when Andy Gascoigne (23) netted a left-footed finish, before Jamie Yates (44) curled home a classy free-kick to essentially put the game beyond Spalding at half-time.

Gary King did net a consolation goal for the Tulips on the hour, but Adam Chapman’s looping header restored Sheffield’s three-goal advantage two minutes later.

Things got even worse for Spalding when Fairhurst buried his second with a powerful effort on 66 minutes to wrap up the scoring.

Meanwhile, ChromaSport UCL Division One champions Pinchbeck United kicked off a run of three away games in five days with a 1-1 draw at Irchester United.

Emergency striker Tom Sergeant fired the Knights ahead in the 37th-minute – and for a long period it looked like being the winning goal.

However, the hosts netted an equaliser in the four minute of added time to deny Pinchbeck their 26th league win of the season.

Meanwhile, Tydd St Mary thrashed Long Sutton Athletic 4-0 in the big ChromaSport UCL Division One game of the night.
