Conservative candidate Jan Whitbourn has won the Whaplode and Holbeach St Johns by-election.
The former manager of Tulip Radio polled over 75% of the vote on Thursday, November 17 to claim the seat on South Holland District Council ahead of the Labour candidate Jennie Thomas.
The seat remains with the Conservatives after becoming available following the passing of Mike Pullen in May.
Mrs Whitbourn joins fellow Conservative Malcolm Chandler in representing Whaplode and Holbeach St Johns by-election.
She obtained 541 votes to the 153 votes for Miss Thomas. The turnout was 20 per cent.
Mrs Whitbourn said: “It’s amazing. Thanks to everyone who came out to vote and to everyone who has helped out with the campaign.
“It’s been wonderful speaking to those in the ward and I hope to be able to make a difference for them.
“Helping people is what I’m all about and I’m looking forward to working together with everyone in the ward to help them in the future.”
Labour candidate Miss Thomas said: “As Women’s Officer for the local Labour party, I was very pleased when I heard my opponent was female as whatever the outcome, I knew there would be another woman making a stand.
“I appreciate and thank everyone that voted for me and I wish Jan all the best in her new role, she is going to be a wonderful councillor.”
