Column by Spalding United striker Andrew Tidswell: The big local sporting news last week was the saga that arose at Spalding United.
On the eve of the first team’s long away journey to Norton United, manager Pat Rayment handed in his resignation to the club, seemingly ending his three-year tenure.
Fast forward 24 hours and I’m standing in the centre circle ready to take kick off, with Pat in the technical area demanding a performance from us.
So what did happen on that Friday?
From a player’s point of view, matters on the field have been going well and that’s all the players worry about. We have put our indifferent performances which occurred at the start of the season behind us and have become a solid unit who can challenge most teams on our day.
Of course, with me living in Spalding and being the only player who does, I do get to hear little bits of extra information.
To be honest, even as an outsider it wouldn’t take much to realise certain situations are arising.
I’m not going to speak too much about it, as it’s not my place to do so. What is my place is to try and help this team achieve its goals and be in the hunt for promotion come May.
However, for those wanting to understand those 24 hours of uncertainty last Friday, just imagine trying to build a brand new house by building the roof first? It simply can’t be done as it won’t have the support to do its job.
