Teriffic Toms takes his first points for G&S Kawasaki with fine ride at Cadwell Park

TJ Toms rode the wheels off the G&S Kawasaki Racing team bike at Cadwell Park over the weekend as he record his best ever result in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship.

He picked up his first championship points for the Wyberton-based team with a fine 14th place at the speedy Louth circuit.

With team-mate Milo Ward being unavailable because of university commitments, Toms was the sole rider for the team and rode well on his first visit to Cadwell Park in the 1000cc class.

He completed his free practice in 25th position and despite a fall towards the end of qualifying, had done enough to secure 20th place and a start from the eighth row.

The weather affected the race on Sunday and, although he had moved up to 14th place on the third lap, the race was red flagged for rain. After a short delay, a new race over the shortened distance of ten laps followed.

At the restart Toms got away to a good start, moving straight up into 14th place.

He passed Phil Crowe on the second lap to take up 13th, which he held until lap eight when he was passed by Ashley Beech.

But Toms held onto 14th place to the flag to pick up two championship points, his first of the current campaign.

Team manager Tom Fisher said: “I am delighted for TJ who has brought points back to the team. It was only a matter of time before he got himself up there. He has gone faster with each outing on the bike and considering this was his first time at Cadwell on the big bike he has done extremely well.

“He was unfortunate to crash during qualifying, which was not his fault and its credit to the team who worked so hard to get the bike up and running again.

“They worked well into the night as it had to be stripped right down and virtually rebuilt.

“We were delighted to see so many of our supporters and sponsors at Cadwell and we thank them for their loyal support. It was so nice to see so many who had come to watch us on Sunday and it was great that they were there to see TJ ride so well.

“We were without Milo Ward this weekend as he is entering his final year at university shortly and the pressure of completing his dissertation, which was disrupted because of the Covid situation, means he will have to put his racing on the back boiler for a few weeks.

“He will be welcomed back into the team once he has caught up, but for now his degree is more important than his racing.”

The next round is at Snetterton (September 5), which is one of Toms’ favourite circuits – so he is excited for the chance to add to his points tally.
