Taylor takes top spot at Tydd Gote Angling Club’s Main Road meet from ‘golden peg’

There were some good weights at the Tydd Gote Angling Club’s Sunday match at Main Road led by John Taylor’s impressive 14lb 10oz of mainly roach and skimmers.

Taylor was on golden peg 12 and caught well short early on before chopping and changing rigs and lines to put together his winning net to pinkie over groundbait and hemp.

Don Green tempted a good bream from peg 34 and topped up with roach and skimmers for his 10lb 1oz and second spot well in front of third placed Archie Greenwood – who took a level 8lb from peg 20, just one fish in front of Andrew Kilby’s 7lb 12oz on peg 22.

Before the match, competitors were surprised by the sight of a grey squirrel swimming across the North Level, something no one had witnessed before.

At the Wednesday Open at Main Road, Mick Asker put a fine net of roach on the scales, taking 12lb 13oz of redfins from peg ten on pinkie.

Taylor was second with 8lb 12oz from peg six and Dave Simmonds claimed third place with two good tench and bits for his 8lb 5oz from peg 18, rueing the loss of a 6lb-plus tench at the net that would have given him the victory.
