The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Tuesday night’s round of fixtures in the Spalding and District Table Tennis League was packed full of close contests.
A host of clashes were either completed or moved forward at Spalding High School as the league table begins to take shape.
First up, Nets and Edges took on Mine’s a Pint – with the latter’s Hitcham playing both of his singles.
He won his game against Sawyer, taking it to five ends. Although Sawyer fought hard and took two ends (17-15 and 12-10) he didn’t quite have enough in him to take a third.
Kerry, meanwhile, won his game against Hitcham in three ends.
Outsiders’ Wilkinson and Beadle then played Jokers’ Briedes and Dumitrache.
Despite the score finishing a 5-0 to Jokers, the games were all close with all singles going to at least four ends.
Next up, Rusty Nails played Hurricane Brothers. Richard Matthews took on George Wallis with some good rallies and close points, taking it to five ends, but Matthews took the point.
Wallis then won his game against Hayter, while Rusty Nails took the other four points on offer.
Meanwhile, South Holland started their match against Nets and Edges, bringing it forward from December.
Gilbert played both of his singles, and the doubles, with partner White.
At the end of the evening the score was left at 2-1 to South Holland. Nets and Edges took the doubles to five ends, giving them their point.
South Holland’s Gilbert then went on to play his singles against Jokers, bringing forward another match. He took both games against Briedes and Dumitrache, leaving the score at 2-0 to South Holland.
The previous week saw Nets and Edges take on JDM. Sawyer played his two singles against Tom Chesworth and Ashberry, but despite playing well, lost both encounters.
Outsiders also played Newside in a fixture brought forward from January, with the latter romping to a dominant 5-0 success.
