STELLAR SHOWING: Spalding Town's under-13s have reached the Lincolnshire County Cup final.

Superb sixes showings from Spalding Town’s junior cricket sides at Louth

Three teams from Spalding Town Cricket Club’s academy impressed at the annual Louth sixes tournament.

The under-11s emerged as overall winners, with the under-9s ending as runners-up and the under-10s ending up in third.

Academy chairman Mark Laud said: “All in all, this was a great tournament for our teams as we finished first, second and third.

“But the main thing for me is that cricket was the winner and the children had a great day.”

Town’s under-9s were in a round robin tournament, consisting of five other teams from as far away as Scunthorpe.

In what was their first-ever tournament, the team played incredibly well and won four out of their five games to claim second place overall.

Meanwhile, the under-11s split themselves into two teams – by age – to form an under-10 side, meaning the two were in the same competition.

The under-11s won all of their games to progress, while the under-10s qualified second in their pool after losing to hosts Louth.

That meant an all-Spalding semi, which went right down to the final over. In the end, a late wicket from the under-11s saw them narrowly make the final.

SILENCING THE CROWD: Spalding Town’s under-11s beat hosts Louth to win the annual sixes crown.

A tasty final with Louth awaited, with Spalding silencing the home crowd with some magnificent running between the wickets to win by six runs.

  • Spalding Town’s under-13s have stormed into the final of the Lincolnshire Cup.

Fielding an incredibly young side in the quarter-finals at Caythorpe, they managed to clinch a six-run victory.

Impressive bowling by the hosts limited Town to 101 batting first, but superb bowling from Macey Andrews and Peter Cook helped get them over the line.

That set-up a last four showdown at Hartsholme on Friday, with Town again asked to bat first.

Runs were hard to come by, but Oli Dring and Will Moxon scored 25 and 26 respectively on a very difficult wicket to propel Spalding to 75-3 off 18 overs.

Again, the excellent Andrews and Cook restricted the home side to just 18-2 from their first eight overs.

More sensational bowling followed, with Ed Barns taking 4-2 in four overs and Jay White picking up 3-20 to ensure Spalding reached the final.
