Super Spalding hold nerve to chase down target

V SPORT

Spalding Town earned only their second Lincs ECB Premier League win of the season on Saturday as they edged a thriller with Louth to fire themselves well clear of the bottom four.

John Medler and Amila Wethasinghe both passed 50 as hosts Louth racked up 228-9 batting first, leaving Town with a sizeable run chase on their hands.

It went to the penultimate ball, but a dazzling 99 from Warren Nel and an unbeaten 85 from Josh Newton steered the visitors to a winning tally of 229-3.

Charlie Kearns (3-71) and Nuwan Jayasena (3-69) did most of the damage with the ball for Spalding, while Thivanka Rajaratne (29) also chipped in with the bat.

More from the game to follow.
